Primary Role and Purpose: The Special Education Teacher Assistant helps the teacher to help meet the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in the special education setting. He/she assists in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instructional programs. He/she works under the general supervision of the academy director and immediate direction of a certified special education teacher. He/she performs other duties as required and that are within his/her capabilities.
Qualifications: Must have completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or hold an associate of arts (or higher) degree. Two years of study is defined as having completed 48 hours or more college credit hours at an accredited junior college or university. Prefer individuals with ability to assist in instructing in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics.
