A. Role and Purpose: The Substitute Teacher is responsible for taking over the duties and responsibilities for a long-term basis. In this manner, this person helps insure the continued growth of each student in the assigned curriculum area. While assigned to his/her temporary duty station, he or she shall assist each student to develop skills, acquire knowledge and realize his/her potential. This long term substitutes will be hired to substitute for a teacher who has not been hired to fill a vacancy. This person will work until the vacancy position is filled. If the substitute works more than 28 days, he or she becomes the teacher of record and must meet the requirements of a “highly qualified” teacher.
B. Qualifications: A substitute teacher must have at least 24 college credit hours from an accredited community, junior or four-year college.
