Primary Role and Purpose: The Law Enforcement teacher provides students with appropriate educational activities and experiences that enable them to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. This position will be responsible for instruction that is designed to help students explore and understand the role and institutions of the police, courts and corrections. By the end of the school year, students should show measurable understandings of how their rights are protected, the partnership between various agencies, crime prevention, etc. This person will also be responsible for reviewing and revising the instructional curriculum as it relates to law enforcement and criminal justice.
Qualifications: Teachers must meet the basic Texas Standard for teachers and hold Bachelor’s degree or higher from a four-year college our university. Candidates must also demonstrate competency to teach in the subject area of instruction by holding a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or a related discipline, or have a minor (or the equivalent of a minor) in the subject area of instruction; or passed the TExES/ExCET test in the content area. A valid Texas teaching certificate is preferred. Credits earned in a closely related field may be used to make a determination of competency.
