Primary Role and Purpose: The Science Teacher provides students with appropriate educational activities and experiences that enable them to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. He/she will be responsible for implementing an inquiry-based instructional program based on experimentation, observations, explanation and, student inquiry. In addition, he/she shall be responsible for maintaining classroom discipline, documenting attendance and monitoring the academic progress of each student assigned to his/her classroom
Qualifications: Must have a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited four-year college or university with a major or minor in the academic content subject area; or coursework with an accumulation of a least 15 college credit hours in the subject area; or 20 college credit hours if the subject area is math or science or, or has passed the TExES/ExCET test to demonstrate competency in the content subject area. Credits earned in a closely related field may be used to decide competency. Competency consideration may be considered by having a Bachelor’s degree plus some college credit hours in the subject area plus at least one year of teaching (as teacher of record) in the subject area at the high school or higher level. A valid Texas teaching certificate in subject area is preferred.
